The SenateAdvertisements
The Senate was the governing body (the senes or elders) of the University until 1926. It consisted of the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, who is one of the heads of the Colleges elected by the Senate, and the Doctors and Masters of the several faculties, whether resident or non-resident. It was therefore a large body. The resident members of the Senate, with some others, constituted the "Electoral Roll," so called because the election to certain Professorships and other offices was made by them. It now consists of all holders of the M.A. or other higher degree and all current members of the Regent House. Under newer statutes, the Senate now elects the Chancellor and the High Steward and regulates the elections. Membership of the Senate confers senior status and comes with a number of formal privileges. |
