"Good for fussy eaters and those looking for some "real" food"
A review of O'Briens Irish Sandwich Bar by Lynne - Monday 21st of November 2005
Overall think that O'Briens Sandwich Bar's are good places to eat. I've been to two in Cambridge and one in Canterbury and the standard of the food and the setting were all pretty similar. Unlike Starbucks they are not usually too busy or full of students (although I am one myself!) so you can talk to your friends, or have time to think if you're on your own. I noticed that it's customers seem to be mostly middle aged. The atmosphere is not particularly friendly unlike like some places where the target market is younger and customers are more bubbly. What I liked most was the ability to create your own wrap or sandwich from a number of fillings. This is made right in front of you, so you can say how much of each filling you would like in your sandwich. For the less adventurous there are plenty of set sandwiches, wraps and other items to choose from. It is not as expensive as Subway, but as you would expect is more expensive than boots. A wrap I made which included; chicken mayo, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and red pepper cost me around £3.50. It was pretty big, but they used to give you some crisps on the plate if you ate in which they dont seem to do anymore. The only drawback I would say was that they only take cash, which means you have to get money out in advance. They say they offer catering for business and meetings on their website, but I dont think that the food is anything special.
