"The old Queen is dead....."A review of Curry Queen by Curry lover - Saturday 6th of May 2006Advertisements
We've been regular customers (group of 4) for 8 years and always loved the old Curry Queen. Last night ensured we won't be going back. -the upstairs was empty at first, not a good sign, as it's always been packed before. -the waiter, though friendly, took a while to realise we needed menus. -the Kingfisher beers were cloudy, one had'scum' on top, but were replaced without question -we ordered wine, then a while later were told they'd run out of that particular wine -Service was very slow, and when the curries eventually arrived, the Lamb Palac and Chicken Ceylon were ok, but the Lamb Rogon was lukewarm and tough as hell, all the rices and side dishes were luke warm, and the chicken tikka was lukewarm, covered in a strange glutinous 'sauce',so tough it couldn't be cut with a fork, and was totally inedible. -we have a policy of never sending food back(you just know what happens to it!), but we told the young chap who was in charge. He was apologetic, and claimed that the new management of 10wks could not cope with the busy Friday and Saturday nights! He offered to replace the chicken tikka, which we declined. He gave us complimentary Baileys (Baileys - after curry?? Ugh??). When the bill came, nothing had been taken off, and when we queried it, saying the chicken tikka was inedible and the rogon was cold and tough, he was not quite so friendly, saying we could have had a replacement. He offered to deduct half the cost of the tikka. In the end, we had £3 taken off the bill. -we are very sad to have 'lost' our favourite curry house. The old Queen had great food, wonderful staff and a great atmosphere. The new Queen only seems interested in catering for the 'just got out of the pub' brigade. We won't be going back - has anyone got any suggestions for a curry house that cares about it's food and customers? |
