I was going to Tatties for a nostalgic Christmas nosh-up with some friends today. We all used to frequent it years ago when it was in St Andrews Street, and thought it would be good. However, the new sign outside put us off. Gone is the lovely design of early twentieth century lettering on a white background, now there is a dark red sign with a nasty little "Tatties" logo stamped on it.
It all looks mass produced, more tacky Spud-U-Like than quality Tatties.
We didn't bother to check out the interior. Are the old 1920s advertisements there? Why do these old-established places, and Tatties has been around since 1981, have to revamp themselves in such a naff way?
