"Incredibly rude service"

I'd gone for a quiet night out with about 5 friends. Everyone had had a pint, and half the group had just got their second round in when the bar maid came up and said that the managers orders were that anyone not drinking had to leave immediately. Could understand it if we'd been there for hours but the pub was virtually empty, we'd been there about 40 minutes and were chatting quietly Maybe because we were students? Got the impression it was a locals pub...
