"Not very Turkish"
A review of Anatolia by Nick Tuson - Sunday 22nd of April 2007
Pleasant enough and busy, with good staff and good service, but the food is bland (certainly would not go down well in Anatolia!) and the coffee is actually espresso with bits, not Turkish. The lamb in Aubergine and garlic sauce was more like a plain lumpy gravy (my girlfriend says this is too harsh and describes it as a plain lamb casserole) than a tasty dish composed of spicy, grilled meat served in a rich sauce (which is what it should have been). Certainly lacked the herbs and spices I would have expected. The Baklava was disappointing too - tasteless and not a hint of pistachio, despite being very green. Enjoyed the evening anyway, which is more than I can say for a lot of restaurants! Just a shame the food is so bland - but it was not stale or offensive either, which is progress in the UK!
