"It's not the product, it's the installation."
A review of B & Q by Steve Ward. - Monday 23rd of April 2007
If you're looking to buy a low to medium priced kitchen / bathroom / bedroom suite, it really doesn't matter where you buy the product from as all of the major DIY stores (MFI, B&Q, Wickes, Homebase, Focus etc...) offer very, very similar products. The real difference is in the installation. If you use the supplier of the product to arrange the installation, you just don't know what type of quality or service you're going to get until the job's half done. You've probably already paid up front. Any tradesperson worth their salt will allow you to pay at least a portion of the installation cost on satisfactory completion. I have fitted kitchens, bathrooms & bedroom furniture from all of the above stores in & around Hampshire & have very rarely found any problems with the product. The majority of the reviews I read highlighting problems are all to do with the installation. Without my knowledge, my wife's grandparents who live in Scotland recently had a new kitchen supplied & installed by MFI at more than double the price I would normally charge & they did a particularly poor job of it too. I spent a weekend putting some of the things right & another 3 months trying to get them to rectify other problems & getting some cash back. I would reccommend to anyone considering buying a new kitchen or bathroom to employ the services of an independant installer rather than using tradesmen organised by the suppliers.
