A review of Olan Mills by Overly Nice - Sunday 17th of June 2007
I totally agree with what everyone has said. We work way too hard for too little money. Example: Yesterday I got to my studio in time for the first 10am appointment, worked all the way through lunch, finally walked over to a pizza place around 7:30 pm to bring back some food, finished all the paperwork / e-mailing / cleaning around 8:30... got home at 9pm. I can't physically continue this every Wed-Sun - never get weekends off and your whole day is shot. Not to mention the "emergencies" that come up and have you driving an hour and half away to cover studios. All for $8.50/hr and health benefits that maybe save you $2 at doctor visits or buying prescriptions. And they do everything in their power to make sure you don't get any overtime pay!!! Oh and GOD FORBID you don't get your $70 average.
Another photographer told me she worked over 40 days straight during the Christmas season and passed out during one of the sittings :(
So why do I stay? For that one customer who tells me how amazing I was with their kids and that no one has ever treated them so well.
