"A commercial restaurant, not a local pub"
A review of The Plough by Fenster - Thursday 26th of July 2007
Strikingly good location, with the beer-garden going down to the river. But, the drinks are strikingly expensive, and the service slow and confused. Food is only served to the tables on the decking outside the building, under the roar of the air-conditioning unit on the roof. Presumably it's too dangerous for staff to approach the lower picnic tables near the river's edge, for 'Elf and Safety reasons. There's no alcohol-free beer for drivers, only low-alcohol beer. In some sense, this isn't a pub at all, more a restaurant which servers drinks. At least the gruesome plastic menus of two years ago have gone. However, there's not really anything "traditional" about this place. All in all, a lacklustre and depressing indication of the poor quality of hospitality management in Britain today, and the owners' failure to understand what makes a pub a delightful experience and a local legend, rather than a short-term cash cow.
