"High hopes but very disappointed"
A review of Rainbow Vegetarian Bistro by Sheena McCallum - Thursday 30th of August 2007
I'd read a review of the Rainbow Cafe which promised us we were in for a real treat, and the menu outside sounded great. However, the male waiter who served us was downright rude and disinterested, and the food was bland, unimaginative and very expensive for what it was. We had Jamaican patties - supposedly filled with tofu, potatoes, peas and onions. The meagre filling looked and tasted like HP sauce - no sign of any tofu or potatoes that's for sure! The side salad was limp, undressed, token pieces of lettuce, tomato and cucmber and the brown rice was bland, overcooked and rather lacking in the promised black-eye beans. We would have stayed for cake but couldn't help feeling the waiter wanted rid of us asap (it was only 8.30pm and no-one was waiting) and he didn't bother to ask if we wanted anything else. We were going to give it a second go on the basis that we must have just had a very off night - however reading the reviews on here our experience seems pretty normal. Don't bother going - lots of much better places in Cambridge doing at least some veggie food.
