"ABBEY! So, so, SAD"
A review of Abbey National by J Alford - Friday 2nd of November 2007
We joined Abbey building society in our small market town more than 20 years ago. The staff really great, and cannot recall any problems. Things changed slightly on the change over to a bank. But, I now realise that their investments, ISA's etc, are very poor. I have one, taken out nearly nine years ago, invested £7000 (redundancy money), which the last time that I enquired,June 07) had risen to £8,633.35, from a low of £5,185.16 (June 03).Deplorable. However, the real crunch came to-day. Having shopped at Sainsbury's, at the checkout my debit card would not pay out. Most fortunately my puchases were modest and I had sufficient cash to settle up. It would have been a very different story had I done a big shop, or indeed filled our vehicles tank with £60 of fuel. This had to be sorted, and as I was in town a visit to the branch was made. While queing debit card in hand, I noted that the expiry date was 10/07. The young employee, that I eventualy gained access to,"I belive that there is a delay sending out the cards,I will get some one to sort it for you". After 20 minutes of not seeing some one, well I could see the designated person, but would not attend to me , prefering to attend to any one else who came through the door. During this period I observed a hand written piece of paper stuck to the counter screen, stating that they had a requirment for staff, please apply. What happened to all of the lovely staff that used to be there? They have gradually gone, WHY? The consequence of their departure has resulted in a very inefficient branch, only one open position usually, when there always used to be three. They do not act with any efficiency, interest, or experience. This situation must have been contrived, and has happened since the Spanish outfit took over. So here we are, money in the bank but you cant have any of it. What an outfit, were off to another Bank. BUT, which one! All suggestions gratefully received. Country Mice
