"A day in the life of a deputy manager"
A review of Stead & Simpson by Mrs Job Seeker - Friday 21st of December 2007
As the title says im a Deputy Manager in one of the Stead & Simpson in the midlands, you would think with with being one level away from being Store Manager im on a good wage? No, im on 5.65 thats right 10p more than some of the saturday staff, id gladly hand that 80p back at the end of the day and not have to deal with the trails that comes with the title. Personally i am not complaining, but if the company wants go move in a forward direction it needs to stop expecting to much from its basic wage dog's-bodies, yes i agree in a retail sector, service is a major factor, but when the spending allowance on wages is getting slimmer each year, many of the stores are cut back to only having 2 members of staff running the store (apart from delivery days), and them 2 members are to carry out an unrealistic amount of jobs each day, while trying to great every member of the public that step foot in the store, the Area Managers know the situation and turn a blind eye and expect more. Another major pitfall at the moment is that as a cheap family shoe store our prices dont match or sometimes come close to our rivals even i dont shop in my own store because my 5.65ph does not go a far way thats with a 50% discount. This is not a rant or a complaint in anyway just my view of a poorly run company. Stead & Simpson are at the moment toying/looking at the idea of selling up or selling on some of its stores due to the bad year suffered within the retail industy, fingers crossed my store is one of them the atmosphere within the work place now is at an all time low with its unknown future and heavy work load.
