As a customer we have plenty of choices these days.
My personal opinon why is the same the product cheaper or more expensive in different shops?
Is it the standadrs or quality issues? How safe is it for me to eat it?
I can tell you for a fact that bigger companies does have a structure in place and enforces there employees to abide to the rules and regulations. As a big company they have a lot to loose if things goes wrong.
I choose to go for Brand products just for the peace of mind.

A similar arguement will be why Merc are more expensive than Ford.
