"A very sad day, but at least Stead and Simpson lives on"
A review of Stead & Simpson by ShoeShopGirl - Friday 1st of February 2008
I agree, it is an extremely sad day for Stead and Simpson. I too have worked for the company for many years, and at the moment I thankfully do still have a job. There have been several stories about the company not caring and being heartless. At the very top, maybe, as this was a financial decision. Without Shoe Zone's deal, Stead and Simpson would probably have died completely. I have briefly heard what the new company have to say, and fingers crossed, they sound like they know how to sell shoes, they have a focused plan, and they intend to get on with it. That plan does mean the Stead and Simpson name will remain on the high street - they're not converting every branch to Shoe Zone. On Tuesday, when the takeover was announced at Head Office, I witnessed area managers in tears as they had to phone stores who they have dealt with for years and give them the terrible news that their store was closing. There are many people within the company who really do care what is going on out there. I have lost numerous colleagues and friends over the last few weeks - I wish them and all Stead's employees, past and present, a brighter future.
