"Aldi - a misunderstood store"
A review of Aldi by George Ringwood - Sunday 3rd of February 2008
In my experience because Aldi's prices are low, it is assumed that their products are in some way inferior. Wrong! After 3 years trying various products they sell, my wife and I usually call in every week now to buy superb smoked salmon, wines, really fresh vegetables and whatever else takes our fancy as the quality is excellent belying the low prices. I used to buy a lot of their excellent Rex photoprinting paper, a quarter of the price of the big names, but it seems to have been discontinued. However their Tevion CD and DVD disks are excellent. A few years ago I spent £750 on a Medion computer as did some of my friends. Mine was a lemon and Aldi refunded the cost 3 months later straight into my bank and without a quibble after I had tried, but failed, to use it successfully for video-editing; friends who'd bought the same model for the same purpose have had no problems. I was very impressed by Aldi's attitude but the helpline from Medion (their computer supplier) was a dead loss. Another real positive about Aldi's is their staff who work harder and more cheerfully than any other supermarket I've been to. (I can't speak for Waitrose as I haven't been in one- yet). The only negative is the limited product range and its rough and ready display, but even that eventually becomes part of its charm.
