"Chaos at station"

Since the introduction of the ticket barriers at Cambridge station it has become an absolute nightmare to use the station particularly during peak travel times.The facilities provided, several coffee bars, food outlets and two waiting rooms are however of a high standard, but only if you are travelling.

Anyone wishing to meet a passenger or send off one on a journey has an most unpleasant experience, in what has become an extremely cramped area just inside the main entrance.
Only travelling passengers are now allowed onto the platform where all bar one (Marks & Spencer small shop) are on the platform, as well as the two waiting rooms.
If one asks kindly if the family friend wishing to send of a traveller can purchase a coffee then is is greated with a very abrupt negative response. If that family friend is disabled and unable to stand for more than a short while then the whole experience becomes very unpleasant. (I won't mention the car parking - drop off area as that is almost as bad)
At a time when the railways are coming under a lot of pressure re train prices / seat availability, it seems extraordinary that they are now hitting the meeters/greeters who may have spent money whilst waiting for the train arrival/departure. The newsagent (WHSmith) have ackowledged that they have lost revenue since this petty small-minded approach to train travel has been introduced.
I need to use a train from Cambridge as I work in London, and pay a very hefty sum each month to fight each day for a seat (often unsuccessfully - and hence a very long hour's journey at the start of the day). The car, however un-edo freindly has a very big attraction at the moment, even if I did have to pay the congestion charge.
A very disgruntled train traveller.
