"We caught them on an off-day"
A review of Galleria Restaurant by Mark Downes - Tuesday 25th of August 2009
We came here for an early evening dinner on August 20th, 2009. The restaurant was less than half-full, but on hearing that we had no reservation, the waiter acted like this might be a problem and consulted his book. He then directed us towards a table on the lower of the two outside balconies, which was fine as it was still warm enough at that time of evening. We ordered soft drinks from him, which arrived quickly, at which time we also ordered medium-cooked steaks. After about 50 minutes, we moved inside to one of the many empty tables as it was getting chilly. Soon after we moved there, the waiter spotted us and it was clear from his expression that he had completely forgotten about us. He approached us and explained that the delay was due to the very long time it takes to cook a medium steak! Two minutes later, the food arrived. Not only were the steaks thoroughly cooked-through, they were dry and tasteless. As we were starving, we ate quickly and approached the bar upstairs in order to pay and leave as quickly as possible. At no time was any apology made, nor were we asked at the end whether we enjoyed our meal, allthough I'm sure they knew we were unhappy with the experience. This restaurant enjoys an excellent location and the views of the Cam and nearby college are certainly very pleasant, but the food and service, in our experience, were poor.
