"Grim again"
A review of The Fort St George by Chris L - Monday 4th of August 2003Each time we go it is a triumph of hope over experience.
My roast lamb looked like mechanically reclaimed pulp and the roast potatoes had seen better days.
I don't know how, but the french beans were charred for the last 2 centimetres of their length - a feat I have never produced in all my years of cooking.
Even though it wasn't full, drinks were served in the restaurant in plastic glasses as they had run out of cold glasses.
We had to sit at the same wobbly table as we had 2 months ago and 6 months before that (it doesn't improve a meal having to hold the table still with your foot).
We go to show visitors the ambience hopeful that the food has changed but leave wishing we had gone to somewhere like All-Bar-One which though looking exactly as others do across the country has a better selection of food cooked more professionally.
Service was good and cheerful though.
