"Awful overpriced food, bad slow service"

A review of The Plough by Jane Seymour written on Wednesday 21st of December 2011

I’ve been to the Plough a few times over the last 10 years and in the past it felt like a run-down Weatherspoons. It since had a refurbishment and several people told me it became really nice and trendy. Unfortunately this is completely untrue. Although the pub itself looks very nice and cosy the food and service are really bad. We had to wait 1 hour 10 min for the food which we pre-ordered two days ago! (there were 10 of us in a group). The portions were very small and priced as a complete rip-off. My ‘grilled’ sea-bass fillets were definitely microwaved and probably from frozen – cost 15 pounds. Fillet steak came with one mushroom, a tiny bowl of chips and some dead greens – 19.95 pounds. Pan-fried Barbury duck breast came with an even tinier bowl of chips and some half-cooked kale – £15.95. Raspberry crème brulee is actually a supermarket pot of crème blrulee (the smallest I’ve ever seen) with two anemic defrosted raspberries on top. The menu sounds very good on paper but in reality it was very basic, bad, microwaved food. What was supposed to be a lovely Christmas lunch with friends turned into a real disappointment. You could get a much better meal at Weatherspoons for much less money. Never again, avoid Plough at all costs..
