"Preparing for the CPE at Eurocentres"A review of Eurocentre School by Julia - Tuesday 25th of November 2003Advertisements
The language school of Eurocentres Cambridge offers preparation courses for internationally recognised certificates such as the Cambridge Proficieny Exam. According to the school brochure Eurocentres seemed to have a high reputation for offering qualified and intensive preparation for this exam which was the reason why I chose this school. In terms of tuition Eurocentres has totally covered my initial expections. Small classes provide an intensive learning atmosphere with enough attention on your personal progress. Since three months are not a long time to prepare for a demanding exam like the CPE, there is motivation of both teachers and the class members. Regular tests and exercises show us our progress and homework is always sufficiently given. :) Various school facilities offer a wide range of possibilities for extra-studies: a computer room, a library, a listening centre ... In spite of this variety of facilities it is often difficult to make use of all of them because of the large amount of lessons (30 lessons a week) we spend in class. However, although I was enthusiastic about staying with an English host family at the outset, I soon began to realise that I had no possibility to join the family life itself. Since I live in a separate house than the family with six other students I don't have a lot of contact to the family. According to the Eurocentres brochure, however, the "carefully chosen host families" are said to provide contact to native speakers and to practise the language with them. Unfortunately, I cannot confirm this at all. Speaking about Cambridge, the city presents itself as an ideal surrounding for language studies. It is a unique experience to spend your time in a world-famous university town like Cambridge and to take advantage of all the numerous cultural activities the city has to offer. Strolling around the ancient colleges can shift you back in time and makes you aware of the importance of this "city of the brains". Overall, I can fully recommend Eurocentres as a language school to improve your English, especially in terms of the CPE Preparation course. Having a high target you want to achieve like this exam can help you to improve your knowledge of English as quickly as possible and is certainly its money worth. |
