"Great food, rash decor and unecessarily expensive"
A review of The Volunteer by cheesypants - Friday 5th of December 2003I've been back !
The volunteer is an odd fusion of living room, gastro-porn and a restaurant. It is definitely not a pub.
You can't argue with the food or the service, possibly better than anywhere in town. The Volunteer sets the standards that others should follow.
It is unecessarily expensive and the recent change of decor has done little to change the feeling that the proprieter has stuck a bar along one wall of their living room and hung some garish contempory art on the wall.
Oh and a more frequent change in the menu would be welcome.
