"How to loose regular customers without trying"

I took my Peugeot 106 to the Histon road Service centre for a replacement rear exhuast box mounting rubber. I was told that the mounting strut on the exhaust box had rusted through and it was recommended that a new box was fitted. I agreed. During fitting, a hole in the front pipe was identified and a new front pipe was recommended to be fitted. I agreed.
3 days later I took my car to AutoKare (my local garage) for a new starter motor to be fitted. Upon examination by the mechanic (prior to work), I was informed that the front pipe was only secured by two studs to the manifold the other being broken off obviously during the fitting of the front pipe as the whole area was covered with exhaust paste including the hole with the missing stud.
I rang Ebley informing them of the situation. I was shocked when they said:-
The 2 remaining studs, with the addition of exhuast paste would form a good repair and would pass its MOT test, 3 months in the future when it falls due.
My garage disagree with this and they said it would not pass its MOT now! They normally do our MOT.
I know that studs can corrode and break, and are important to the security of the system. If it had been pointed out to me at the time, I would have been prepared to pay for its replacement.
The fact that Ebley could not be bothered to tell me that the stud required replacement in the first place, denied that this repair was anything but a bodge, covered the joint in dollops of paste and were happy to let this car out onto the road in a sub standard condition, has made me lose confidence in the quality of service given by Ebley and I will not use them again.

My garage will be fitting a new stud, for which I will pay and present the bill to Ebley for payment (some hope)
