"Killer Sushi, but the noodles are just dead!"

A review of Teri-Aki Restaurant by Nick x - Saturday 10th of April 2004

Teri-Aki… everyone seems to have an opinion on this lovely little quayside parlour! I’ve been a few times and sampled both the main dishes and the sushi, and here’s what I think:

Main dishes: these are *not* good. They’re small, bland, and to be honest I can make something better in 10 minutes with a wok at home. To top this off they’re expensive and over-priced. I’m not impressed and wouldn't ever order them again…

Having said that the sushi is *incredible*! I can’t recommend it enough, and I’m gong to ignore the noodles and talk about the sushi for the rest of the review.

The service is quirky, that’s for sure. I get the impression that the staff are so keen to help that they’ve overdone it and ended up the wrong side of helpful. Not to worry, it amuses me, to some it might annoy. They’ll certainly do their best to help you out. Also, because the sushi is made by their chef and not from a packet (thank god!) it’s quite slow. In my opinion if you want good sushi then you’ll have to wait, that’s just how it is. No explanation for why the other courses take so long though...

These criticisms aside the place is fantastic! You’re paying for the setting on the quayside, and the great décor and in my opinion: it’s worth it.

The price (of sushi) is very very reasonable. The individual platters provide a good choice while the combo gives a good variety and without a doubt is enough for a full meal (although I wasn’t a fan of one of the options selected… I think it was squid and it was too hard).

Bar is well stocked and has a smoking section. Japanese beers on tap (which are superb, I’d never tried one of them until now).

Overall, I suggest you go and try this place, because it’s not to everyone’s taste. Noodles are a no-no for sure but the sushi is divine, that’s about what it comes down to! Myself, I’ll always come back to this one, it’s a keeper.

Taste: 9 (sushi, no the main courses)
Authenticity: - (can’t comment, never been to Japan)
Venue: 10
Service: 6
Price: 9 (again, the sushi not the noodles)
OVERALL: 9
