"When did Harry Potter become a sitcom"

A review of Warner Brothers Cinema by Naomi - Friday 2nd of July 2004

To whomever it may concern,

A few days ago I had the disgrace of seeing a vain attempt at the third Harry Potter movie, the Prisoner of Azkaban. It was a disgrace to the whole series of Harry Potter. When I had watched it, I expected the same level of suspense, intrigue, and terrific characters wich the other director, Duncan Henderson displayed vividly. However from the start of the movie I knew I could no longer expect this.

The first four scenes although funny where hollow and left the audience perplexed rather then captivated. They where roughly strewn together, creating the affect of absolute disarray. The following scenes although better did only to add vague reference to the plot and nothing more (except jokes).

Furthermore there was no underlining plot of Hermonie’s, Harry Potter’s, and Ron’s relationship, or how Harry was feeling towards toward the events that surrounded him or if Sirius is really dangerous. There where several attempts at these; however squashed together, vague, or blatant scenes are unconvincing.

Also the ending answered and created questions that should have been answered or actually been asked before, instead of creating bewilderment. Consequently by the end of the film, with so little of any underlining plot and Harry’s emotions towards these events not plain, many people are against Harry rather then for him. A disturbing thought where in the others you are cheering him on rather then cheering for Snape to punish him. These are some of the things that should have been in the movie:

There is no fear of Sirius
· Not a strong enough impression of why Harry would want to find Sirius
· Not enough depth to the fight in between Harry, Hermonie, and Ron
· Draco’s and Snapes characters seem to change
· No suspicion Lupin might be a werewolf
Don’t think Hagrid is really concerned
· about Buckbeak
· Don’t feel at all like dementors affect Harry
· No mention of how Moony, wormtail, padfoot, are corresponding people
· Not enough information on how Black, Snape and Lupin get in the
· No idea why Hermonie has Krookshanks
· Professor Trewlany is never taken serious even though she did get some predictions right
· Thus no fear that Harry might die
· No idea how professor Lupin becomes friends with Harry womping willow
· No mention about how the creators of the marauders map lived at school
· Don’t know why Ron thinks his rat is dead
· It’s confusing to think that Sirius just told Voldermort where Lily and James Potter is
· Does not explain how Sirius got out of Azcaban or how he knew Peter was at Hogwarts
· Does not portray how they think black murdered Peter
· Where is Pigwedgan when Sirius writes him on the train?
· Why don’t the Dursleys know who Sirius is like in the book?
· Why are the kids so seemingly rude to there teachers?
· Was Harry Potter really in that much trouble for him to be suspended from school?
· Have you even read the fourth book?

These are the things left out or too loosely said create a horrible sequel to the series and made me very disappointed at how this movie was made. As no one could understand it, unless you’ve read the book! What a disappointment I feel like you made a bad sitcom instead of the drama I was expecting.

I was also wondering did you mean to create a summary of the book then an actual sequel to the first two movies since this is what you did.
The other two movies you can watch then read the third book with no problem understanding it. However I’d be surprised if you can watch the movie before you read the third book and understand it. The only part I enjoyed was how the hippogriff looked and how he flew.

Also the constant close-ups of Harry were annoying. Along with the fill in scenes desperately trying to sew together the erratic scenes that often jerk you out of any sympathy for Harry. If you cannot improve these movies (wich would be next to impossible) and create a descent plot without strewing your scenes around like laundry on a line I will not be watching this anymore!

However as I am only one person I suspect this will not create any rush to change anything causing me to quickly resign watching any of your movies, as they seem frivolous attempts at an actual production.
Thank you for taking consideration of what I write and if you don’t well J.K. Rowling has lost some fan base for a movie that should have been almost equal to her books.

Extremely disappointed
