"Job opportunity lost through poor service"
A review of Royal Mail - Cambridge Delivery Office by Liz Cooper-Williams - Friday 30th of July 2004
I have just received a letter returned to me ONE MONTH AFTER POSTING for having insufficient postage paid - 7 pence to be exact! In fact, I took it to the post office on Mill Road (near Ross St) to have it weighed and the correct postage applied. The error was therefore NOT MINE. My outrage is that it has taken over a month to have this letter returned to me and I have subsequently MISSED THE DEADLINE FOR A JOB I was applying for as this was a JOB APPLICATION. My complaint is therefore on two counts: 1. Two different assessments of the postage required by Royal Mail employees and 2. Incredibly slow service to return the letter to me for such a pathetic amount of money. In Australia, if the postage is inadequate by such a small amount as this, the letter is still delivered ON TIME and a notice is sent to the addressee. A far more civilized approach! I shall be avoiding posting anything and rely on electronic deliveries as much as possible from now on and I recommend that others do the same.
