You all saw it, the European football championships 2004 that is. What the hell was going on? Greece, a lowly country in football terms, pulling off the win of the century so far. They beat France, Portugal and the Czech republic (who I also backed but lost on). Arguably the most potent European footballing countries at the moment. On this showing they’ve got company.
Greece had apparently never won a competitive game before now. Now that’s what makes the netting game so good. I won a packet at Bob Dixon Cambridge, by betting on an outsider and one of the favourites, the Czech republic. I lost on the favourites but won on the outsiders. Every now and then this happens in sport, the underdog wins through. We love that in England.
At Bob Dixon Cambridge I got outstanding odds on Greece winning at quite an early stage. It was quite a gamble, they still had France to beat at the time, which is why the odds were so high. But I had a feeling in my gut, they’d beaten Portugal and held there own against other major sides. I though as France were not the force they used to be I may have a small bet. What a winner!
The staff at Bob Dixon Cambridge were happy to pay out on Greece. Although I got good odds, they made a packet because most bets were on other countries. It’s how betting is profitable I suppose. They were very pleasant and it is a nice place to go, rather than the seedy image a lot of bookmakers have. Now turning to the World cup odds…..
