"Hays found me work"

While there are some things Cambridge is sorely lacking, recruitment agencies arenâ€™t one of them. The good news for job hunters is that there are literally loads of these, the main cluster being in the city centre and along St. Andrewâ€™s and Regent Streets. The bad news is that remarkably few of them are actually that good.

As someone who has done a number of temping jobs with numerous different agencies, Iâ€™ve found Hays Personnel Services to be one of the better ones. That is, they actually found me work on more than one occasion, the wages were reasonable, and their customer service was generally pretty good (which is more than can be said for certain other agencies).

The staff were invariably very friendly, and one of the things that most impressed me was how they regularly dropped in to see how I was getting on in each workplace - a nice personal touch which goes a long way in increasing customer satisfaction.

However, although they had no problem dealing with the more important matters (i.e. finding me work, paying me correctly, etc.), they seemed virtually incapable of managing some really rather trivial tasks, such as sending me timesheets and updating my incorrectly recorded address details.

The only other slightly annoying thing (which, incidentally, seems to apply to every single recruitment agency on this planet) was the unwritten rule which states that under no circumstances whatsoever must they pay any attention to your preference of work locations, even though they ask you this when you register. For example, if you clearly specify on your registration form that you can only work within the city, then expect to be offered work anywhere within a 20 mile radius!

Overall, though, I found Hays to be a competent recruitment agency who delivered a good service.
