"Sunday 31st August 2003"
A review of The Granta by Mrs Janet Simpson - Friday 5th of September 2003
My family of eight arrived at the Granta Pub at noon looking forward to the advertised Sunday Roast, followed by punting on the river. After serving our drinks, we were informed that food would not be served until 1pm. At 12.45pm my husband asked the barmaid if we look at the menus. The barmaid said that they could not give any menus out until 1pm. At just after 1pm, I went to the bar for a menu to be told rudely that they have all been given out (as there was only two other families in the garden, OTHERS HAD LEFT, I found this a bit odd). After borrowing a menu from a fellow diner we discovered not only that Sunday Roast was off, but also no children’s menu (family pub?). At 1.10pm I went inside to order. The barmaid then informed me that they could not take any more orders for 45 minutes because the kitchen was too busy. Forget it, we decided to go punting and eat later at home. The only apology we received was from the man on the boat hire, who understandably was embarrassed by the reaction of the pub. After reading these other reviews, it is the landlord of the pub and his/her area manager who are at fault. Hopefully someone will email them this page.
