"Lies Damn Lies and Tyre Ratings"

The rating letter on the side of a tyre i.e V (rating 150 MPH) indicates the speed that the car can be driven at for 10 MINUTES continues before the heat generated would destroy the tyre (and you) it is not the continous rating.

H (130MPH) is now becoming the more common rating fitted to modern family cars. taking over from S/T

A garage will always cover its ass when fitting a replacement tyre. If a car comes in with V rated tyres it will not fit a lower rating as it could be held responsible if the vehicle had a tyre related accident. Nowdays people will try to sue at the drop of a hat and it is not worth the garage or tyre depot taking the risk..
