A review of The Elm Tree by Will Jones written on Thursday 26th of January 2006
I recently popped into my old local to see if the rumours were true and - lo and behold - instead of a grumpy old man at a computer waiting for me to change my mind and go across the road, i was greeted by friendly young man who took great delight in welcoming me to the pub and identifying the qualities of a superb range of ales - the bar was tidy, the smelly fish tank had been relocated to waters new and the place even smelt nice! I was also pleased to see that I was not the only customer, but one of at least a dozen, who all seemed equally satisfied with their choice of drinking gaff for the evening and it was only 6pm. the ales are kept well, there is proper wine, candle light, classy jazz music playing in the background, and i was informed that the live jazz is back (mon&sun) - a superb evening out as anyone who used to frequent these nights will agree. they also do a cracking cup of hot chocolate (my girlfriend assures me)and they are open all day. still no food but apparently a new menu is on it's way...and best of all, the elm tree boasts what has to be the comfiest sofa in the world - who could want more from their backstreet local!.
