A review of Backstreet Bistro by Andrew written on Monday 9th of June 2008
My second visit to this cramped, noisy and hot restaurant was no better than my first: once again our booked table was not ready on time, the service inattentive and the kitchen in apparent disarray. Our food arrived one hour after we ordered it, after we were promised twice that it would be with us shortly. Finally the waitress caved in and offered us consolatory bread and olives, whereupon the food appeared almost immediately.
Veal in a cream sauce was, even after two glasses of wine, olives and a beer, one of the saltiest dishes I have eaten. Unpleasant and not worth the wait.
Dessert appeared (no joke) within ninety seconds of ordering, because of course by this time the staff wanted to close up pronto and head home.
Cambridge deserves better than the captive-audience misery of self-deluding eateries like this. Avoid, avoid, avoid..
