"Receipt other than box"

Could i ask if you had the receipt as the box wouldn't matter if the product was not fit for purchase or was clearly not of merchantable quality. the receipt would act as receipt and you are usually given a leaflet as a receipt to keep as well and are told to keep it. this happens in all the leeds stores..
