A review of The Plough by Audrie Reed written on Wednesday 30th of July 2008
Took a friend for her birthday meal last night. Toital cost £41.80 for 2 courses and a small glass of wine each and coffee. The pub and gardens and staff were all lovely BUT the food portions were mean. Our main meals were more starter sizes! With a very limited choice for vegetarians, I chose peppers stuffed with butterbeans and courgettes with basil and tomato base sauce. The taste was good, but two small red peppers with about 6 butterbeans in each, and a drizzle of sauce was not worth £6.50. My friend had warm duck salad - mainy lettuce at a cost £9.00. Luckily we had a side order of chips to share - a small bowl cost £2.50! The puddings were much better portions and value for money.
So what has always been a reasonable place to eat has now turned into an expensive night out with portions that leave you feeling hungry. I won't be returning to The Plough..
