A review of The Fleur Bar & Bistro by Andrew written on Monday 8th of December 2008
Dear oh dear, this place was disappointing.
It has a car park, it's nice inside, the staff are welcoming. It serves cocktails. Too many niggles, though, let it down badly.
First, we were shepherded to the frankly silly outsize high-chairs in the raised area of the bistro. Even the waiter implied these were off-putting, so just putting some ordinary tables there might attract more diners.
I ordered a glass of red wine, which the waiter assumed, without asking, would be a large glass. The glass had nothing to indicate its size, so I ended up drinking and paying more than I wanted to.
We ordered a lamb casserole and an Angus burger (don't call this a beef burger - the waiter will correct you, as he did me). Both were gristly, the burger also tough. Desserts were a large and sickly tart involving Dime bars, and a much better chocolate waffle with ice cream.
Just as a personal preference, I prefer the chef to stay in the kitchen and cook nice (gristle-free?) food, rather than pass through the dining area, as he did more than once, to ask his customers if their food was OK..
