A review of Varsity Restaurant by Fat Gooner written on Tuesday 23rd of December 2008
After much reviewing and umming and ahhing i settled on Varsity by reputation alone for a birthday meal for my other half.
A narrow establishment but well laid out and very clean, however we were seated at a table to the rear of the resturant which was about the size of your average postage stamp (and i kept burning my elbow on the radiator).
The menu seemed to be a mite sparse for my liking, not a whole lot of 'Greek' but a whole lots of burgers, steaks etc with just a few Greek dishes thrown in, so my fiancee and i plumped for the mezze.
3 courses, impecabbly laid out, and good quality food, service from our young male waiter was polite, prompt and respectful...almost awkwardly so at some points.
Dessert!!....'Lumpy Bumpy'....for this treat alone its worth the trip...a sumptuous little chocolate dish which was so rich and decadent i almost had to go kiss the chef and start smashing plates.
One sour note of the evening was a female member of the waiting staff who was swearing loudly at the kitchen staff, dissapointing to hear and showed a marked lack of proffesionalism.
Prices were ok, £50 for the 2 of us including a bottle of house wine and a couple of ouzo's after the meal.
Overall Score: 6.5/10, It was a nice night out but somewhat lacking in atmosphere and the menu could be a taad more varied.
