"Clowns: Quality & Ambience Unchanged Since 1980's"

When an immigrant, newly married and living in the Arbury in 1987, I chanced upon Clowns. It reminded me of coffee shops back home with a uniquely Italian welcoming aura from the friendly family staffing the shop. Rafael (Ray) and his daughter Jenny dished up some of the tastiest salads and savouries, and one was always welcome to stay at length and read or engage in idle chatter whether ordering a full meal or nursing a single cup of coffee. Hands down, best espresso in Cambs. How nice to find in 20 years, Clowns while larger and having taken the top floor space, is relatively unchanged. Or, should I say, changed for the better. Forget the big box coffee stores and stick with the family who really knows good food, good coffee and how to make you feel truly at home in their premises.

Tourist? Make room for Clowns on a Sunday morning. In addition to making a spanking good brek, Clowns is a Cambridge tradition not to be missed, and one of the places to see and be seen in a casual and (often on this quieter day of the weekend) intellectual atmosphere..
