A review of Aldi by Ian Cider written on Wednesday 28th of April 2010
1. All senior management in the company progress through stores according to their website. They have all worked in and run stores prior to moving into senior positions. The massive succes of the company is based on the people, all the strategic decisions seem to be taken by managers who have been 'in the firing line'
2. 'Too many chiefs' The company has the lowest percentage senior management of any company in the world. At the highest level the world wide business is apparently controlled by a board consisting of only a handfull of people compared with the forty or so for most UK only companies.
3. Baskets would never work at their checkouts. Use a trolley, that is the system, that is one of the reasons they offer such great value. People who want baskets that badly or dont understand the philosophy can shop elsewhere! People like Chris complaining on here need to equate the way the business operates means lower overheads allowing products to be sold at lower margins making them cheaper. Staff are well paid and products are fantastic quality as part of the philosophy. Growing sales and store numbers would suggest they are onto something. As would the fact that their owners are among the richest men in the world!
4. Shoppers like Chris who disagree should either pay more for lesser quality groceries elsewhere, shop at Aldi and accept it is a different store for a reason or set up their own company, run it how they want and shop there as the Aldi owners did sixty years ago..
