A review of Midsummer House by Concerned of Cambs written on Friday 11th of June 2010
I've been here twice in the last month and for me it doesn't feel like a Michelin starred place.
No doubt the food is very nice, although the lunch menu is extremely limited for the set menu (work lunches). I just feel the service lets it down badly.
The waiters are not friendly and you feel as though they are judging everyone dining there. It may be worth them remembering they are only waiters.
They did not take my jacket nor offer to do so. It was extremely hot in the conservatory both times and they did not offer to open the patio doors so we did it ourselves.
Some of the staff are nice and do their best to make it an enjoyable experience.
I feel the service is better at Hotel du Vin and Cote as is the choice of food.
Saying that, it is an experience and worth going to see. I haven't tried the a la carte so can't comment on that, but the food is presented superbly and is a real treat on the eyes. Not sure about the pickled vegetables though!
They unfortunately sometimes let the wine glass run dry.
A nice touch is the donut triangles at the end.
I'm sure I will go again and would like to try the a a carte in the evening with the wife, but from my experiences so far I would say that it should not be rated as 2 star..
