A review of Galloway & Porter by Graham Stevenage written on Sunday 7th of November 2010
I must have bought over 200 books at this shop over the last 25 years or so, including lots of biligual dictionaries at half-price and superseded editions of Rough Guide travel books. In the last couple of years, I have noticed that the stock was less appealing and I often left without buying anything, something unimaginable ten years ago.
The closure of the shop at the end of May / beginning of June 2010 is a sad reflection of how independent traders are going to the wall in all sectors. All town centres are becoming ever more homogeneous..
