A review of Aldi by Eileen written on Tuesday 27th of August 2013
Today I visited Aldi at Shipley, my first visit to an Aldi store. I had read favourable reports and decided to see for myself. I was served by a member of staff at the checkout who was wearing the name tag "Michael". I was surprised to be ordered (not asked) to lift up my bag which I had put in the trolley, in front of a line of customers , so that the checkout operative could presumably check that I was not concealing stolen goods. He then left the till halfway through saying that it was faulty. On returning, no apology offered , the checkout procedure was completed and the man started throwing my purchases into the trolley. I set about putting them into the carrier bag and was ordered to leave the area and use a shelf at the back of the shop. Is this usual behaviour in Aldi stores? I won't be going there again. Contrast this with the user - friendly approach of such as ASDA, Sainsbury and the other quality supermarkets..
