A review of Footlights Restaurant & Bar by Chris written on Sunday 28th of December 2003
A few years back I would heartily recommend this place to anybody (I did, many times) but sadly this is not the case anymore...
It seemed that after the 'change of management' a couple of years back things started to decline.
The management has since changed again & things have not improved.
What do I mean?
Well, after two disappointing visits we decided to 'leave well alone' for a year or so and see if things improved, therefore we decided to try again while xmas shopping last week. Mistake.
Initial service was quick and the place was clean, tidy & welcoming. Good start. The menus were still rather sparse & didn't appear to have been updated or changed since our last visit (a year ago approx).
Ok, no problem we ordered a starter & drinks.
Drinks duly arrived, well, one did, the other,a coke, took an additional 10 mins....
Starter (for two) was a bbq wings and wedges type affair which sounded great but the menu didn't state that it was served with lashings of melted cheese (which I hate, sorry) so that was that..
The main courses - Mine was OK, but my better half didn't eat ANY of hers as the vegetables were cold, hard and almost colourless & the lamb casserole smelt like, well, sewage (Honest).
The dessert menu was just a piece of monochrome photocopied card with nothing appealing to either of us, but to be honest my wife had lost her appetite & wanted out pretty darn quickly.
At least they didn't charge us for the sewage and the waiter was friendly and helpful (hey, we did leave a tip!) but in short I won't be going back to F/L for quite a while methinks.........
