A review of Warner Brothers Cinema by Jimmy TwoTimes written on Wednesday 21st of January 2004

I used to work for a cinema a few years ago, and have heard many of the complaints mentioned a number of times. Cinemas themselves do not make any money from the ticket prices. Unfortunately these prices and the raising there of are due to the film distributors ever increasing costs to hire the print of the film to that particular chain. Different admission prices between different cinema chains are due to different deals that are made with certain distributors. If you were to compare the prices of the two cinemas in Cambridge for example you'd probably find that tickets for the Arts cinema are cheaper, again this is because they are more inclined to show smaller independant or foreign films whose distribution companies would not charge throught the nose for prints of such films. Occasionally you may get lucky and get the bigger films like Lord Of The Rings for example in both and then you'd get your choice. The multiplexes will normally show the larger Hollywood blockbusters and would have to pay more. The only way cinemas really actually make money is through the food and drink that they sell which is why you'll probably see these prices are more expensive than usual. So to the person who would like to "sneak chips under the coat" should think twice-not only are you causing a bad smell in the screens for others there who might not want to smell your food, but you are part of the reason that prices for such goods can get hiked up so much..
