A review of The Vaults by David Thomas written on Tuesday 2nd of March 2004
My advice would be dont go if you are a smoker and if you are looking for food that justifies the price.
As a smoker, you are led away from the nice quiet restaurant and placed in a back part of the bar next to the toilets, where the service is distinctly slower, and there is a constant stream of drinkers on the way to the loos.
The food is average, and they forgot to bring us the other meat dish we ordered. When this arrived it was cold and raw in the middle. (Not what you want from lamb kebabs). The meat dishes on the whole are good, but the vegetables are akin to family pubs that put dishes in the grill or under the microwave.
The service is very friendly, but inattentive, and at £35+ per head the restaurant is poor value. The wine list is reasonably priced with a good choice, but not enough to make up for the rest. .
