"They left me with a Coldseal"

A review of Bryco Windows by Mr Runksdale written on Thursday 29th of April 2004

I had windows installed by Bryco Coldseal in December 2003. They sent some fitters who may have just come on horse back. I told them to go and that I wanted some trained fitters, not that they ever came!

The widows were installed but the finishing was far from complete. I later found that some cement bags were used to pack out one of the replaced box sash windows!

I still have two broken units from six months ago, not that they will be repaired now if the company has gone into liquidation, although I did manage to get someone to come last week 24/04/04?! Not that this was of any use as they only measured the broken units!

I had to spend £600.00 to put the job right and never once did the customer service department (if thats what they call it!) phone me, I was always doing the work.

I found that Coldseal did not re-new their membership for the Glass and Glazing Federation in Demember of 2003.

Also FENSA did not want to know. Even though the goverment body is set up to randomly (being the operative word) inspect the workmanship of companies. Due to the sub standard work, the Coldseal, I thought that they would want to get invovled but to my astonishment they didn't. I have recieved a certificate though showing that the company did get planning permission.

We chose Coldseal as we thought that, as they were a national company, things would be more relaible. How wrong could we have been!

In retrospect now I have learnt a big lesson. This is my advice to anyone who needs to get any kind of building work done. Whether it be double glazing or anything to do with your home.

a) Never pay for the work until you are completly satisfied

b) Get the latest set of the companies accounts from companies house. This should be a good indication of how reliable they are. I.e. look for C.C.J's (the company number is how to find them) and the P&L and Balance sheet.

c) Research your company to see if they are part of any trade organizations (not that they are usually a lot of help) but they can be good to fall back on.

d) Always go for the quote that is in the mid range of price from three or more.

e) As from the X-files................Trust no one!

Coldseal breached my contract but we are powerless to do anything now if the company is in liquidation.

At least they made it on to watchdog! .
