A review of Aldi by Jim Shire written on Friday 28th of March 2003
It never ceases to amaze me how good value Aldi is. Identical brands selling at 50% of the price of co-op or Sainsbury's are common.
A couple of examples I can remember from my last trip: Emmental cheese - half price, yoghurts typically sell for between 12p and 18p.
The quality is of course no different - you're not buying cheap versions, it's the same brand. The shop just charges a lot less on the assumption that it will sell a lot.
Just goes to show how much we get ripped off in this country. The mark-up is so much higher than in neighbouring countries..
