A review of Marks & Spencer by Sheila Smith written on Monday 16th of August 2004
I have been shopping at M&S for clothes for many years. If anyone at M&S reads this could someone please let us know what has happened to your sizes. They are completely up the creek. I am large, but not that large, I can fit into Debenhams size 20 and BHS size 20 shorts and trousers. Recently I tried size 22 in M&S and could not get into them - really depressing. Your sizes are really skimpy. I did explain to customer services but she advised me to shop in Evans - very nice and cheap she said. My other problem is that the trousers (long) are never quite long enough, I am 5' 9" which is not excessively tall in this day and age. What happened to the extra long you used to stock.
Also your prices are getting a bit ridiculous, I would say your quality is on a level with Next but you are more expensive.
I have had several of your summer trousers and a dress made of sear sucker type material and the seams always come apart. I have brought some back and got a refund and then have bought more similar items and they are doing the same thing. Do you not have a mechanism to learn from these faults and correct them.
I would suggest you send questionnaires out to your card holders to see if you can get back some useful information, it may help turn M&S back around to be the store we all once loved.
