A review of Footlights Restaurant & Bar by Anonymous written on Monday 14th of February 2005
I booked for a large party of people. We had to wait for menu's. I had to go to the bar for our drinks as no one came over. I then had to uncork the bottles of wine that i ordered (12 bottles). I also had to take all the wine glasses to our table myself. 45 minutes before the starters came but we had no plates to eat them off. Finished those and had to clear our own table because no-one came to do it. The main meals arrived after another long wait but we hadn't received clean cutlery which we had to find ourselves. We then had to clear those plates away ourselves. The manager inferred that because the food there was relatively cheap that i shouldn't expect the service to be so good - can you believe that? He also said that he was doing us a favour by allowing us to run up a bar tab, but everyone knows that this is standard practice in any professional restaurant. He even told us that he would never usually take such a large group, and that i had intimidated a member of his staff over the phone into taking the booking - ridiculous, misplaced, unfounded and offensive!
He did stump up two bottles of champagne in an attempt to atone for helping to ruin our celebration but by this time, these simple gestures weren't enough. The food when it came was good. It is the service and the staff that will ultimately cause this place to close..
