"The station: bad start for visiting Cambridge?"A review of Cambridge Railway Station by Edward - Tuesday 10th of June 2008Advertisements
I entirely agree with the reviewer of February 11th concerning the effect of the new ticket barrier. In a few days I will be at the station to meet some (fairly elderly) French friends from Dijon who will have been travelling on Eurostar. Since I am not sure how long they will take to make the transfer from St Pancras to Kings Cross their precise arrival time is not known exactly. (For practical reasons it will not be possible for them to phone me.) I will have to wait at the station for perhaps over an hour and I will have to stand in the entrance lobby for that time. Many groups of foreign travellers come to Cambridge and need to be met. So this situation will be repeated on many occasions- not a good start to their visit. The whole arrangement seems to have been badly thought out. It is even very difficult to find timetables since an information counter is not available in the entrance lobby. Meeting people at the station has now become a potentially frustrating and irritating experience - to be added to many aspects of actually travelling. My French friends have every reason to be thankful for the SNCF. |
