A review of Midsummer House by Nicolas written on Wednesday 26th of April 2006
I went there with my wife to enjoy a nice evening while the kids were babysitted. The location is pleasant although the parking is not easy to find. The decoration is nice, although not particularly original. We went on the terrace upstairs while our table was prepared. The "somelier" helped us to choose between two burgundy. I don't know if that was a coincidence, but he was able to give us a lot of details about the domains and the owners of the one we picked.
Although it is a called a "three-course" menu, you get much more than that. Two very original appetizers helped us to be in the mood. Then came the started, by far the best dishes of the evening. At the same time very complex but with delicate tastes. The main dish and the dessert, although delicious, were somehow a bit lower. With the coffee, we were offered small doughnuts (called oreillettes, bugnes, or tourtisseaux, according to the region of France). Finally, stuffed, we refused the homemade chocolates. First time in my life I can't accept a chocolate. Amazing.
The price of the food is quite high. The price of the wine is VERY high. However, it is worthwhile for an evening we still remember..
