"Good fitters but bizarre quoting and pricing system"

We had a designer come 2009, he spent 3 hours here doing the design. He then quoted us £13000 for the cupboards and dressing table. As there was supposed to be a 50% sale on, we were somewhat surprised, that meant at full price it would be £26,000! and the cupboards aren't real wood. We objected and he came down to £10,000, we said no, still too high, he said he needed to call his supervisor, after the call, he came down to £8000, we still thought it was too high. I said we would pay £6000 which was still pretty high.He said no and left. He came back 20 minutes later and agreed to the £6000. Once done, the cupboards were fitted well so no complaints there but I do wish customers could see what things cost and not have to go through this strange haggling process..
